So, the honeymooon was great and everything until the time came to come home. Florida seemed to be doing everything it could to keep us there. Well back up a step...... we wanted to go the the florida aquarium on the last day (Monday). We acquired a map and then made a mad attempt to find the place. We got lost on some memorial highway (although the memories we have of that road are not too fond) then we figured we were going the wrong way and took the first exit we could only to find a happy toll booth that ate 50 cents. Well that wasn't the thing to do so we headed back and met another hungry toll booth on our way out. Somehow we got really close to the aquarium but ended up taking a wrong turn. I mean really wrong. The signs change from exciting messages like "St. Petersburg 20 miles, Clearwater 35 miles" to "Warning: Long bridge ahead- check fuel level". But it was too late for us. We ended up going on that 20 mile bridge to St. Petersburg. Luckily we did have enough petroleum to make it over and back but there was no turning around. It's just a long long one way road over the bay. So we made it over and back all the while eating up lots of fuel which we were blessed to get to pay back. We made it to the aquarium and petted an alligator and some stingrays and saw a fish that is supposed to weigh 1500 pounds. Pretty cool. When the time came we headed back to the airport and spent the next hour getting severely lost. Not that we didn't know where the airport was... we could see it the whole time but the roads we were on took us away from it. One road we went on was a back way to the airport and I'm pretty sure if we hadn't turned around we would've been racing 747's on the runway. Anyway, we got to the airport, dropped off the car, and got our boarding passes and luggage taken care of. Our flight was supposed to go from tampa to Dallas to Salt Lake leaving Tampa at 7:15. At 7:00 our flight was cancelled. Thanks Florida. So we went back to luggage, got a new flight that left at 8:45 heading to Las Vegas and getting us to SLC at 2:20 AM. In the meantime we had to go and recheck our luggage and since our flight was cancelled we were both "randomly selected by our airline" to have our luggage searched and us checked for chemicals. We barely made our flight to Vegas. Got to Vegas at 3:00 AM Florida time and guess what... our flight to Salt Lake was cancelled. Thanks Nevada. So we stood in line for another 2 hours and the lady said "Well I can get you to Phoenix tomorrow night then on a plane from Phoenix to Salt Lake Wednesday morning. How does that sound?" The worst part is I think she was serious. We were about to tear her head off at that point and told her to get us on the next flight to Salt Lake from Vegas. And I don't know why she didn't think of this first but she got us on a flight to Salt Lake the next morning at 6:20. They gave us a hotel voucher and sent us on our way. Well there were lots of people in our predicament so we got on the shuttle and had to make a million stops so everyone could go to a fancy hotel like the excalibur or the monte carlo. Finally got everyone off but us and another couple who were headed to the mariott in Henderson. Henderson! That's like an hour away! So at 2:00 Vegas time we headed over to Henderson only to find a traffic jam that stopped the freeway. At this point we gave up and told the bus driver to just take us back to the airport. We spent a luxurious night in the airport seats and/or the floor, got up stood in line for 2 hours to get our boarding passes only to discover that they had me scheduled on another flight than Sara. They fixed that and put us on the same flight in seats far away from eachother. Again when we went through security and were "randomly selected by our airline" to receive a pat-down search and our luggage rummaged through by greasy security officers. I can only imagine what search we would've got if we had been sent to Phoenix... Finally we got on the plane, bribed the flight attendant so we could sit by eachother and eventually got to Salt Lake at 8:50 AM. Crazy huh? I don't recommend it to anyone. We are done flying for a few years.

Sounds like quite the adventure, but hey atleast you have a good story right?
Fred,
Very adventurous plane ride back. Luckily for Becky and I, it was on the way back. We would have felt really bad if this was on the way to Florida setting the tone for the honeymoon. Perhaps when Becky and I cash in on the frequent flyer miles, we'll keep in mind your experience with Florida.
Jim
We had a similar experience and had to stay a night in the Vegas airport on the way there and then at the stratosphere in Vegas on the way home.
