Last Saturday we went down to K-town to see Keith and Danielle and to drop by Sara's parents for a minute. We saw K&D's new house and it's got a lot of cool stuff. We hooked up their washer and dryer but before doing so we had to clean 3/16" of goop off the floor. I have no idea what it is. It was like a mixture of old gum and motor oil - and about that wonderful to clean up. Keith put some supposedly amazing soap-like substance on it and rubbed it in real good but that was about useless. It may have taken off less than 1/16th but in order to do more it would take for ever. So being the ingenius fools that we is, we deduced that an old movie theater gift card with a few cents left on it and my industrial safety training card worked wonders for scraping it off the floor. Then the soap helped us out to finish the job.
They also showed us a creepy room that has a tree root growing in it. There was a bucket in one corner that had a pump thing in it. I played around with it and figured out it turned on when the water level reached a certain height. Genius! It works like a toilet only instead of the float reaching a certain height and water turning off, the float flips a switch to turn the pump on which sends water through a one-way valve in the drain in the ceiling. If you didn't think that fact was exciting well that's too bad because I thought it was.
I was glad to get civil rights day off so that we/I could ....... do homework. Yes folks, that's what I did. In my defense I'm not the only one who thinks like that. Most engineers seem to think the same thoughts. In fact I remember asking people what their plans were for thanksgiving last year and just about all the engineers said they planned to use the spare time to catchup on homework. One guy told me a horror story about how he got up at 7 on Thanksgiving morning to work on a project, then he stopped for an hour to eat dinner, then got right back at it til he went to bed a night. What a life! I can't wait to be out of school.
Sara's job has been pretty chill for this first week of training. They seem to have done a lot of personality tests so everyday I hear stories of some new self experiment she has had to conduct every day. One day she drew a happy little pig, one day she did a bunch of puzzles, etc. Sounds like a fun job to me. My job of working on the mill is going well. Last week tried to drill through a copper bar but the bar just heated up and made the bit slip. We figured it was probably because we didn't have the coolant setup yet. But, since we don't want the coolant to make a big mess we needed to make some type of enclosure to stop us from getting unwanted showers when the mill runs by computer program. So we extended the drain table my boss made for the mill and then basically put a shower curtain around it. We painted the table and pvc tubing that holds up the curtain so I have affectionately dubbed it the lean green milling machine. Catchy huh? When it's all done I'll post some pictures.

Haha yeah our house has some pretty fun quirks to it! thanks for helping set up the washer and dryer. That creepy room still freaks me out.
In our house in logan we had a "creepy room" that jake took as his fishing and reloading room. He said it was because I was so creeped out about it that I won't go in there, and it was like his "Man Cave". A cave explains it really well. No lighting in it (we had to put it in) and the floor was rocks and what not, so it was cold in there, and plus it was in the basement, so all in all I didn't like it.
